A three-part series of reports on how the Orlando region is preparing to meet the national semiconductor challenge with a bold, strategic, and people-centered approach.

Beyond infrastructure and innovation, the future of semiconductor advanced manufacturing and America’s place in the global semiconductor economy will be decided by talent and its availability. The Orlando region is preparing to meet the national semiconductor challenge with a bold, strategic, and people-centered approach

To help guide the development of Central Florida’s burgeoning semiconductor industry cluster and understand the workforce needs of this growing sector, the Orlando Economic Partnership produced the Upskill Semiconductor report series.

The analyses explore:

  • Orlando’s specific place in the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem,
  • How a skills-based approach to hiring and talent development creates a broader talent pool to draw from
  • The education and training opportunities in the region for long-term talent development.

From K-12 STEM programs and new accelerated training models to degree pathways and advanced research initiatives, the reports map the growing semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem that supports semiconductor workforce development in the Orlando region.

Together, these efforts create clear opportunities for residents to participate in one of the most critical and fast-growing industries for the Orlando region and nation.

What the Semiconductor Reports Cover:

Part I – A Semiconductor Industry and Ecosystem Primer provides an accessible overview of the Orlando region’s semiconductor industry’s vital role in the global and national economy, how Central Florida fits into this landscape, and why our region’s focus on advanced packaging positions us for success.

Part II – A Skills-Based Approach to Semiconductor Workforce Development in Orlando offers a deep dive into the talent needs of the industry and proposes a skills-based approach to workforce development—highlighting how transferable skills and upskilling can shorten the timeline for building a strong domestic workforce.

Part III – Supporting Orlando’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Education Ecosystem brings the strategy to life by showcasing the real investments being made in Central Florida’s education ecosystem and the personal stories of individuals who have successfully transitioned into semiconductor careers.

Why Domestic Semiconductor Manufacturing and Advanced Packaging Matters

The United States is making historic investments to rebuild its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. But investing alone is not enough. A resilient, future-ready workforce must be built intentionally—with collaboration across industry, education, and workforce development organizations.

The Semiconductor Manufacturing Workforce report series seek to inform and inspire action for companies looking to grow talent pipelines, educators designing programs for the talent of the future, or workforce professionals committed to creating pathways to prosperity for communities near and far.
