Welcome to the Orlando Regional Perspective, where I share stories that bring the Orlando 2045 Vision to life and highlight the progress shaping our region’s future.

1) Celebrating 407 Day & regional pride – 407 Day is a powerful reminder of what makes the Orlando region special: our people, our collaboration, and our shared pride in this region. Thank you to Orange County for the official proclamation, which underscores a collective commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive, and globally competitive Orlando region. It’s a day to celebrate how far we’ve come and recommit to where we’re going together. Share the news

2) Honoring Alex Martins, a true champion for Orlando – Alex Martins’ induction into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame is a well-earned personal honor and a moment of pride for our entire region. Under his leadership, the Orlando Magic have helped elevate Orlando’s national and international profile, strengthened our sports and entertainment economy, and contributed to downtown’s ongoing revitalization. As the current chair of the OEP’s Governors Council and the past chair of our legacy organizations, the Orlando Economic Development Commission and the Central Florida Partnership, his impact extends far beyond the court. Congratulations on a well-deserved honor. Read more

3) Job growth in a challenging national context – Revised data confirms that Orlando added 8,800 jobs in 2025, a meaningful upward adjustment from earlier estimates. While job growth slowed nationwide, making 2025 the weakest year since the pandemic, Orlando still ranked as the 7th fastest-growing large metro in the country. In a year when many peer regions lost jobs, this performance reflects the resilience, diversity, and long-term strength of our regional economy. Read the latest analysis from the OEP’s research and strategy team

4) Tammy Humphrey earns national fellowship in talent development – Congratulations to Tammy Humphrey, Senior Director of Talent Development at the Orlando Economic Partnership, on completing the 2025–26 ACCE Fellowship for Talent Development. Tammy’s work strengthens our region’s ability to build, align, and retain talent, an essential pillar of the Orlando 2045 Vision and a key driver of long-term regional competitiveness and economic mobility. Read more.

5) Reimagining downtown for the next generation – A new episode of “The City Playbook” takes a deep dive into what makes cities truly livable, competitive, and attractive for the next generation of talent and businesses. The conversation focuses on Downtown Orlando’s transformation from improving walkability and safety to creating a more vibrant, economically dynamic urban core. As our region grows, a strong downtown will play a critical role in talent attraction, business investment, and long-term regional success. Like, subscribe and share the latest episode

6) Creative economy takes center stage – The Florida Film Festival returns to Orlando April 10-18 for its 35th year, bringing more than 160 films and events to the Enzian Theater. It’s the only Oscar-qualifying film festival in Florida, meaning short film winners are eligible for Academy Award consideration. The festival highlights the strength and momentum of our creative economy with 10 films being featured primarily shot in the Orlando region. Multiple films are from filmmakers who were born and raised in our region and/or educated here including graduates of Valencia College and Full Sail University, now in its 23rd year as the primary sponsor of the festival. Events like this showcase world-class talent and storytelling and reinforce Orlando’s position as a destination for film, digital media, and creative industries that contribute to both culture and economic growth. Get tickets here

7) Strengthening small business pathways – The application portal for Orange County’s Small Business Enterprise Program is open for businesses seeking certification. The program supports the growth and sustainability of small businesses, increases participation in procurement and contracting opportunities and promotes a competitive business environment. If you know of a company that could benefit, you can find more information here.
