Welcome to this week’s Regional Perspective, where I share stories that bring the Orlando 2045 Vision to life and highlight the progress shaping our region’s future.

1) Orlando leads in job growth – The Orlando Economic Partnership’s (OEP) Research & Strategy team just released its Orlando MSA Market Update for Q2 2026, which shows Orlando leading the state in job growth at midyear. The region added 20,600 jobs in the year ending June – more than Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville combined, and half of Florida’s total job growth over the period. However, the share of area businesses expressing confidence in their own firm (72%) and the U.S. economy (35%) both fell to two-year lows during the quarter, amid concerns over conflict in Iran and renewed inflationary pressures. 2) Share your business perspectives – The Q3 Orlando MSA Business Conditions Survey, powered by OUC—The Reliable One and conducted with Stetson University, is now open. Help shape the region’s economic landscape by sharing your insight on local business performance, challenges, and opportunities. This quarter’s special topic revisits workforce challenges and opportunities for local businesses. Take the survey today.

3) Dr. Vazquez announces retirement from OCPS – After 35 years of dedicated service in education, Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Maria F. Vazquez said she will retire at the conclusion of the 2026–2027 school year. From classroom teacher to leader of the nation’s eighth-largest school district, Dr. Vazquez has helped shape opportunities for generations of students while championing academic excellence across Central Florida. Her legacy includes strong district performance, a steadfast commitment to students and educators, and a lasting impact on the region’s future workforce. Read more.

As our region continues to grow into a global creative capital, as outlined by the Orlando 2045 Vision, the candidates will address key pillars of that vision including economic growth, transportation, housing, public safety and economic competitiveness.
