While Orlando is often recognized for its leisure and hospitality industries, industry leaders know it as a highly connected aviation and aerospace ecosystem built on talent, technical capabilities, infrastructure, and strategic partnerships.

Across conversations on the show floor, those were the exact assets companies said they need to grow, and the Orlando region is uniquely positioned to deliver them.

Talent Drives Decisions

Workforce remains one of the industry’s biggest challenges.

The Orlando region has developed the fourth-largest aerospace and defense talent pipeline among large U.S. metros, strengthening its position as a leading destination for aerospace innovation and workforce development.

The University of Central Florida has awarded more than 1,000 bachelor’s degrees in aerospace engineering over the past five academic years and continues to expand research and workforce development in autonomy, cybersecurity, propulsion, sensing, advanced manufacturing, and space technologies. Recognized repeatedly as one of the nation’s leading workforce suppliers to the aerospace and defense industry, UCF plays a critical role in meeting Florida’s growing demand for engineering talent.

An Aerospace Ecosystem Built Over Decades

Orlando’s advantage is not a single company or institution. It is the concentration of capabilities throughout the region.

The area is home to:

  • Team Orlando’s co-located Army, Navy, and Air Force simulation commands
  • Approximately $6 billion annually in modeling, simulation, and training contracts
  • Central Florida Research Park, with more than 140 companies
  • Major industry employers including Boeing, L3Harris, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin

Modeling, simulation, and training established Orlando’s aerospace reputation. Today, those same capabilities support the region’s growing innovation ecosystem.

Innovation Across the Aerospace Sector

Many technologies highlighted at Farnborough already have a presence in Orlando.

In hypersonics, UCF researchers developed the first hypersonic rotating detonation rocket engine and are advancing HiHYPER, a Department of Defense-funded high-hypersonic propulsion testing facility at UCF.

In advanced air mobility, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority recently approved plans for a vertistop at Orlando International Airport, supporting future eVTOL demonstrations and a planned on airport vertiport by 2030.

The region also benefits from a growing concentration of expertise in autonomous systems, sensing technologies, optics, photonics, cybersecurity, and advanced aviation infrastructure.

Proximity Matters

UCF sits just 35 miles from Florida’s Space Coast, placing the Orlando region within one of the world’s most active aerospace corridors. As launch activity grows, much of the supporting engineering, optics, simulation, and satellite systems work occurs throughout Orlando.

Orlando International Airport further strengthens the region’s connectivity, serving 170+ nonstop destinations worldwide, including direct service to the United Kingdom through Terminal C.

The Takeaway from Farnborough

Whether the conversation centered on advanced air mobility, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, or simulation, the underlying requirements were the same: talent, infrastructure, research capabilities, and industry partnerships.

The Orlando region delivers all four.

The sum of these strengths directly supports the Orlando 2045 Vision, which positions innovation-driven industries as critical to the region’s future and sets an ambitious goal of becoming a Top 10 Global Innovation Hub.
