Access: Internet Access
Internet access has become as necessary as electricity to take part in the modern economy. However, the digital divide is still an issue challenging both rural and urban regions across America. This metric tracks the percentage of households in the Orlando region who have access to a wired, broadband connection in their home.
*Percent broadband access includes only services like DSL, cable, fiber, and satellite delivered to fixed locations, but not cellular data plans which provide mobile access. In addition, the Census does not ask people about the TYPE of internet connection they have if they don’t pay for it (what they call “Internet access without a subscription”). But, these households primarily are college students or residents that get internet for free from their local government. These are assumed to be broadband connections and are added to the “Fixed Broadband Access” totals. In the table above, all four types of internet access (including no internet) sum to 100 percent.
