AR/VR Training Company 3D Media Expands to Orlando

Cutting-edge AR & VR training company signs lease at the University of Central Florida (UCF) Business Incubator and plans to add 25 high-wage jobs in Orlando

Orlando, Fla. – Immersive training technology company 3D Media is moving into the University of Central Florida (UCF) Business Incubator in the Research Park Innovation District and plans to add 25 new high-wage jobs in Orlando. A woman-owned business currently operating in Louisiana, 3D Media chose to expand to Orlando to better access the military simulation and training commands in addition to the robust modeling and simulation talent pool from universities like UCF and Full Sail University. The jobs created by the company are estimated to be 40 percent above the average wage in Orange County.

“3D Media was founded in 2018 and really cut its teeth translating training programs for oil and gas companies like ExxonMobil to an immersive, AR/ VR experience,” said Daryl Roy, co-founder of 3D Media. “Safety is key, and immersive training has up to 75 percent higher retention rate than traditional training. We see a ton of opportunity for the applications of our proprietary processes to create the new future of training systems – especially in the Modeling, Simulation and Training Capital of the World.”

3D Media assimilated quickly to the collaborative ecosystem around the military simulation and training commands of the U.S. Navy, Army, and branches of the Air Force. Many of 3D Media’s latest projects involve developing new training programs for the Air Force, and the company is presenting its success in securing military contracts at the upcoming SBIR/STTR Partnership Day Showcase presented by the National Center for Simulation.

“Through our Air Force contract, we were referred to speak with individuals in Orlando,” said Roy. “Once we got connected, it seemed like every meeting resulted in two more connections and meetings – the business community here is extremely open and welcoming.”

The Orlando Economic Partnership (the Partnership), working closely with the National Center for Simulation and UCF Business Incubator, helped the company get connected into the local community and eventually establish its presence at the Incubator.

“Orange County’s world-class Modeling, Simulation & Training industry continues to thrive and we are proud that 3D Media has chosen to join our ecosystem,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings. “Companies like 3D Media and the technology they are creating help us get closer to creating an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow here in Orange County.”

“Orlando’s simulation cluster encompasses a large community beyond the military and defense sector’s home base at Central Florida Research Park,” said president and CEO of the National Center for Simulation, George Cheros.

3D Media is the perfect example of how growing companies can take advantage of the ecosystem here in Orlando.

The company has joined local industry associations including the National Center for Simulation, VRARA Central Florida chapter and National Defense Industry Association.

“We’re exciting that 3D Media is expanding to Orlando and doing so through our Soft-Landing Program. The company is exactly the type of young, rapidly growing company we are focused on supporting, being headquartered outside of Florida and successful in their current market sectors,” said CarolAnn Dykes, Director, Programs & Operations Innovation Districts & Incubation Program at UCF. “3D Media is a leading innovator in two clusters we focus on in [the UCF] Innovation Districts: VR/AR and simulation and training. We are already supporting the team in their business needs and look forward to supporting their rapid growth.”

3D Media plans to move its business development, programming, 3D modeling and creative operations to Orlando. The company already has plans to partner with local players like Design Interactive and Unity.

“Not only is there the epicenter of Modeling, Simulation and Training here in Orlando but also an incredible talent pipeline that is unparalleled specifically for what we do,” said Roy. “And at the end of the day, 3D Media’s objective is to get people home safe. We look forward to continuing that mission in Orlando.”

“This is another feather in Orlando’s Modeling, Simulation and Training cap,” said the Partnership’s President and CEO Tim Giuliani. “3D Media’s story shows that the word about our collaborative and supportive simulation ecosystem is getting out, and we look forward to welcoming 3D Media and future AR/VR companies to our community.”
